2007 Kokopelli Trail Recon

Kokopelli Trail Race was my favorite single day race of the year last year. 142 miles self supported from Moab to Fruita. Dave and I had a blast pre-riding it last year. This year as per tradition it flips and runs in the opposite direction. I wasn't sure if I could remember all the turns going backwards - an excellent excuse for another pre-ride ;-)

I found a different Dave to pedal the whole thing with this year. Here he is taking a pic of Castle Rock. I love this feature. It will be dark when we pedal by it this year.

The whole family came along for the recon this year - even Gran. They put in on the Colorado River at Loma and floated down to Moab. I rode the trail parallel and we met up most nights to camp. Steve helped out with the car shuttling by taking his bike on the raft and riding back up the road to get the truck. Vacationing Wallenfels style!

The weekend was full of Dave's. We hung out with a recovering Dave Nice at Dewey Bridge.

For the big ride on Sunday Dave came along to carry my warm clothes and ride snacks and show me the secret line down Rose Garden Hill.

Sunday was Dewey to Moab. Big day, lots of sand, 66 miles, massive vistas and over 10k feet of climbing. Dave B proved not only to be phenomenally strong the whole way but also able to hold his own with the smack talk master.

We hit some cute fluffy snow up at the high points. There is snow falling in this pic - honest!

I think the boyz got cold but I was fine as Dave had offered to carry my clothes so I had plenty of layers...

Final tally for my 4 days out of the barn was 20.5 hours pedaling, 1292 TSS, 202 miles, 24,357 feet of climbing. I'd call that a binge :-)
